Well, there isn’t too much to say about this week…

Well, there isn’t too much to say about this week because my companion got a virus that is hitting the missionaries pretty hard so we’ve been on quarantine for almost this whole week.  However, from the few days that we got to work, we had a ton of success!  We are working really hard on finding new people to teach and it’s exciting to see how positively some people react.  We found a small family and the 14 year old girl has a lot of interest.  She wanted to learn everything in one day but we had to get going soon so we asked to learn everything in one day but we had to get going soon so we asked if we could run home and get a “gift” for her and of course she said yes.  We ran home and grabbed a Book of Mormon and put diamonds and ribbon on it to make it look special for her and she was so happy to have something to study!  We also had a baptism this week with Wendi!  She is so great and has been so faithful with attending church for the past 5 months so it was super special to see her take this step.  She’s been working to support her family and raising her cousins for years so her maturity is through the roof.  That same night we had a Christmas dinner and it was crazy but we had so many people there that we are teaching!  Hna. Pancake is super American looking with the blonde hair/blue eyes so everyone thinks we must be from different countries.  Everyone keeps asking if I’m Mexican and that I need to find out if I have ancestors from there because I “look and talk like one.”  haha.  The funniest thing this week was when a 15 yr old boy asked where I’m from and I said, “Where do you think?”  He said, “I don’t know …you look Latina but I heard you speaking English…but not very well so…” Then I interrupted and said, “Not very well??” He said, “Yeah, but don’t worry, I’m working on English too.”  HAHA! My companion was dying laughing.  Hna Pancake and I are praying to stay together!  We will see.  Talk to you guys in 4 days!!!!

Love you !

This week flew by….

This week flew by but it was amazing because we had a miracle!  I’ve been teaching these 2 young girls (12 and 14)  with all my companions here ever since I got in this area about 6 months ago.  they are such great girls and I have seen them progress so much.  they are so prepared for baptism and usually  end up teaching us the lessons.  The problem is that their aunt/guardian wouldn’t give them permission to be baptized because she is super catholic.  Well after months of trying to win the heart of their aunt, she finally referred to me as “family”.  So I took that as my sign to get the permission.  We were with the Young Women’s President and decided to talk about the importance of baptism and we were all so nervous because the aunt is a very outspoken lady.  But as we began talking about it, she began expressing how she completely supports the girls in this decision and we were all shocked at how easy that was!  I was just thinking, “Is this real life??”  It was so crazy and exciting and even the girls had this terrified look of confusion on their faces .  I don’t think anyone expected that.  We are so excited to see them get baptized this Saturday!

Another high adrenaline moment of the week was when a dog charged at me ready to eat me alive and I saw my life flash before my eyes so I just turned my head, screamed and waited to feel the pain….but the next thing I knew, the owner jumped in in the knick of time.  It was absolutely horrifying!!  The weird moments of the week are when we got woken up at 4:30 am by a chanting mob outside with pots and pans.  People are crazy in December.  Also President told me I won the “most angelic” award in the temple, haha.  He’s crazy!  He said it’s because white really stands out on my ‘dark’ features.  I just started laughing because I was with a bunch of Latinas.  But hey, I’ll take it!

Anyway, 11 more days! 🙂  I love you guys!

the house of illness is holding…

The house of illness is holding on to its reputation.  We had a rough week battling mother nature but everything is good now and we are back to working hard.  Things are going really well and Hna Pancake is awesome.  We laugh a lot together and the days are flying together.

There’s nothing to exciting that happened this week but there is something really weird happening in our area.  People are actually stopping us and asking us to come visit them and asking when they can come to church!  It’s awesome!  This honestly never happens here so it is such a great change.  i was a bit apprehensive at first thinking…”Do these people want to kill us or something?”  But we’re still alive and it’s going great!  haha.  The scripture that really struck me this week was in Alma 29:9; “I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in ti.  I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.”  this describes so perfectly how I feel as a missionary.  I owe everything to my Father in Heaven and it makes me so happy to see the change in others as they discover the blessings of the restored gospel.  I love being a missionary!  People think we are crazy for leaving everything behind for so long but after all my Heavenly Father has given me, I can’t think of a better way to say thank you than by dedicating 18 months to Him.

Weird moments of the week:  my finger almost got chopped off by a fan, a lady who met me back when I was skinny always see me in the street and screams, “You’re so fat now!”…I just say, “Thank you, you’re so kind.”  haha 😦  and I received the best compliment that someone was so impressed that I became fluent in such a short time and was complimenting my Spanish and my accent.  Yay!  I love you guys!  We’re so close to Christmas!  Woo!

This week was crazy but great.

This week was crazy but great.  First, we celebrated Thanksgiving by eating PB & J’s, Doritos, and cake.  We also had a mission conference with Elder Cornish of the 70.  He spoke a lot about gratitude an dhow we can better have the Holy Spirit with us when we are constantly being grateful and giving thanks, instead of thinking of the things we need/want.   I’ve been making it my goal to think of one new thing every day that I am grateful for and it’s helped me better recognize my Heavenly Father in all things.

We also got to take a family we are teaching to the temple this weekend!  It was awesome and the family was so excited and bought almost everything in the temple store.  It was so cute!  Everything was going really wrong at first and we couldn’t get the kids to focus and our plans all fell through and we were getting really worried but then we decided to take them into the temple and sit in one of the front rooms just to feel the difference in atmosphere.  It was crazy because as soon as we opened the door, everyone fell silent for the first time.  We sat down and took a moment to say a prayer and the spirit was so strong that it almost brought me to tears.  I hadn’t felt it that strong in a long time and I knew that they could feel it too.  The silence was deafening but it is so cool to truly see how different and separated the temple is from the world.   If you haven’t had the chance to tour a temple or enter those doors, GO!!  I am so grateful to have a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and that everyday I get to help people learn of Him.  It’s funny how it just fills a space that you never really knew was there.  I’m thankful to know my Savior lives and knows each of my pains and troubles perfectly.

I love and miss you all so much!

Love,
